South Sudan Lounge Mobile Money Transfers System
South Sudan has launched a telecommunications system of sending and receiving money thorough phone to boost the country's economy following a five-year civil war that resulted in the deaths of approximately four thousand people. But a number of challenges will have to be addressed before the service can be expanded including high levels of illiteracy and lack of IDs required to register people to use the service.
In recent weeks, the streets of Juba's capital have been overshadowed by commercial advertisements urging people to register.
The company relies on people who have already used the system in neighboring countries like Kenya and Uganda to convince residents who suspect the service is a safer financial choice than to carry cash.
